China Quality Association published its 2025 New Energy Vehicle Customer Satisfaction Index (NEV-CACSI) findings in Beijing on December 3. The aggregate NEV-CACSI score reached 80 out of 100 points, marking a single-point gain over 2024 and indicating gradual enhancement in buyer-perceived quality and worth.
Battery-electric and plug-in hybrid segments both scored 80 points, climbing 2 and 1 points respectively year-over-year. The assessment examines vehicles through five categories: general satisfaction, build quality and dependability, capability and styling, post-purchase support, and retail experience.
Survey scope encompassed 162 popular models spanning 55 marques and 40 manufacturers, gathering 25,303 validated responses from 128 municipalities across China's five principal zones. Findings reveal that Chinese-owned NEV marques matched satisfaction levels of foreign joint ventures while reporting reduced defect rates per hundred units, especially regarding intelligent cockpit technologies.
However, challenges persist industry-wide. Reported defects per 100 vehicles climbed to 109—an 18-unit increase from 2024. Smart cabin malfunctions (31 instances), driver assistance failures (22 occurrences), and interior component problems (12 cases) represented 60 percent of documented complaints. Nevertheless, quality dependability satisfaction improved to 80.8 points, while capability and styling satisfaction reached 81.1 points.
Consumer preferences increasingly emphasize vehicle capability, dependability, and ride quality, with diminishing interest in low upkeep expenses or visual appeal.
